This is Tim Nguyen.

Who is Tim?

  • He is a senior at Boston Latin School
  • He is a Research Intern at Harvard SEAS
  • His current research is advised by Prof. Heng Yang
  • He is an avgeek (like really obsessed with planes)
  • He loves sailing and hiking
  • His favorite artist is Saint Motel
  • He is a bit too obsessed with Google and Patagonia

His main interests are in:

  • Artificial Intelligence
  • Computer Perception
  • Sailing

He is currently working on:

Utilizing Large Vision and Deep Learning Techniques to optimize classical Structure from Motion (SfM) problems for radiance field based rendering (NeRFs, 3D Gaussians, etc). He hopes to use them on rendering large unbounded scenes in an efficient manner.

Research

SplattingTAPIR (2024)

Researching the use of vision-based foundation models integrated into the Structure from Motion (SfM) pipeline to optimize the rendering of large unbounded scenes. This research was done with the Harvard SEAS Computational Robotics Labs and the Boston Latin School Senior Capstone program. The project was awarded Grand Prize at the Boston/Region VI Science & Engineering Fair, honorable mention for the Massachusetts Science & Engineering Fair, and also a finalist at the International Science and Engineering Fair.

Low-Poly Photogrammetry (2023)

Researching ways to create and implement a low-poly photogrammetry package that is lightweight and also has the ability to run on a wide range of devices. This research was done at MIT and was awarded First Place for the Boston/Region VI Science & Engineering Fair.
